Hello lovelies
Well here we are in 2023! May this year be a wild and beautiful one for you.
January and the new year, in our modern culture and within the shape of the Gregorian calendar, which is the calendar we use that was made up by Pope Gregory, has for me, a rather strange feel to it. One that is slightly out of kilter with the natural order of things.
We are heading into our coldest months, the earth will potentially turn more frosty and hard, the air biting. Yet the cultural celebrations of new year give the message of upward growth, new outward starts, big energy, and detoxing, yet if you look into the natural cycle of life in this part of the world, we are still very much in an inward state.
This can make some feel like they are in a liminal space, or a push and pull feeling. A call to go inward still, and the cultural call to be outward. This comes from people believing that a beginning is outward, shining and upward. Yet when you looking at nature, or older more earth based traditions, you see the teaching, that new beginnings, are held in the darkness, they form within, they begin in the darkness, within the decay of the old.
The earth, the air and within bodies, there is still very much the feeling of inward work happening, a need to nourish and pay attention to what lies beneath the surface.
This time is still a time of quiet contemplation, where beings and seeds dream and nurture themselves slowly into being.
Our bodies are a gateway into a well of wisdom. The more we listen, the more wisdom we are shown about who we are, what we need, and how the world around us, effects us. Sometimes we search outward for the inspiration for what we want to move towards, hoping something will appear, someone will tell us. Yet often, the things we need to hear, see and feel, lie within first, that is where we will find the guidance of where to walk towards.
I know I’ve written about seeds a lot lately, but this really does feel like a good time, to get a sense of those seeds within, the ones that your soul is trying to draw your attention to, the ones wanting holding and nurturing so they may start to grow into your life and out into the world.
Below are Januarys writing prompts, that explore a little of this inner world and what may be beneath. I hope you enjoy, and do let me know how it goes. It can be good to time some space after the writing to digest and rest.
The whole process will be between 40 minutes to 1 hour depending on the timing you choose to set for yourself.
