Hello lovelies
I wanted to celebrate this little tree by sending you my recipe that each year I make, and it takes me almost a whole year to complete.
But first here is a little abut Hawthorn -
In the Scottish Highlands you might hear the saying 'Cast ne'er a cloot til May be oot'. This phrase is a warning not to discard your winter clothes until the hawthorn is in flower, as cold snaps can catch you out until May at the earliest.
Hawthorn is a beautiful and magical tree and one celebrated at this time of year for the medicine this tree holds, for the stories that come with this tree and the spirit that inhabits them.
Hawthorn, a member of the rose family, and also known as the May tree, is a tree that treats the physical and emotional heart. A tree that is a soothing ally for grief, stress and worry, and helps the heart to remain steady and calm through difficult times.
Its gentle action nourishes and tones, strengthening the whole circulatory system. Hawthorn brings balance to the heart when used long term, truly and deeply helping to correct excess or deficient tendencies. Wondrous in its capacity as a heart tonic, hawthorn has the ability to stimulate or depress the heart and circulatory system in response to the needs of the body. It is used to treat both high and low blood pressure, it’s rich antioxidant content provides excellent nourishment for the body and heart offering protection from free radical damage.
Hawthorn helps comfort a nervous heart and associated conditions such as palpitations and arrhythmia. It also helps to ease symptoms of nervous unrest such as anxiety, depression, and even insomnia.
Hawthorn helps to open the heart enabling easier expression of emotions.
