Hello and Happy Easter!
The time of eggs, nests, celandine, dandelion flowers, violets, blossom, bumble bee hums, rabbits, hares, goldfinches, birdsong, seedlings, chicks and opening buds is here. A time when bare earth is slowly being coloured in by greens and yellows and whites.
This was a time where people gathered to celebrate the awakening of life and its journey from the underworld up into the above ground world.
Green medicines are pickable, songs are being sung in the air and colour is peeking our from every corner.
This is a time where we see the gifts that spring up from rest and inner work. This is the time where we are gifted so much by the force of the wild.
On this celebration, I really see do to the symbolism still in place, how pre-Christian celebrations were merged into Christian celebrations to try to make non Christian’s more Christian.
Which, if you think about it, is incredibly clever, yet still the scraps of the old festivals and their stories still whisper into each festivity.
Long ago, Pope Gregory sent a group of missionary monks on a journey led by a Benedictine called Augustine who was instructed to take 40 monks to England with instructions to convert the pagan inhabitants to Christianity.
