Dark soil, nests, seed casings, compost and cocoons
The space we need to create to enable ourselves to grow, break down and transform
Hello lovelies
The need to be held in the dark soil, build our own nests, seed coats or cocoons is the subject we will be exploring in today’s online gathering for paid subscribers, if you missed the email with the link, here it is - Online Gathering
Here is the brief concept of what we will explore later today - When we look out into nature, we see how each new becoming is held in a protective casing, lovingly made. Be it the nest woven from twigs and leaves of ash, oak, hazel and chestnut, lined with downy feathers, hair, moss, and soft seeds. Or the cocoon, made by silk spun from the moth themselves, or the chrysalis made from the very skin of the caterpillar. Or the seed, the tree and plant embryo, holding all the skills and instructions for how to be plant medicine, or a beautiful tree, held in whats called the seed coat. Strong and protective on the outside, soft and nourishing for the embryo on the inside. Or the soil, the holding of the dark, full of life, full of fertility and medicine, full of elders, mycelial networks and creatures all benefiting and increasing goodness in the fecund ground.
These structures hold, protect and give space to the unravelling and becoming that is held within them.
I love how beyond these protective layers, are further protective layers that hold the beginnings when they emerge. The seed has the arms of the earth, mycelium, rain, sun, bees and other plants, the baby the mother, the father, the wild natural world, the egg the nest, the warm feathers of its mother, the worm, the seed, the grain. The butterfly or moth the plants, the medicines, the sun, the air, each being is made to be born into safety, protection and love.
We are born into belonging and love.
I know it doesn’t always go to plan, but to see the intention for how cared for endings and beginnings should be within the natural world, is a beautiful thing, and it is always a powerful teaching for me and my own life.
In great times of change, when we feel a deep longing to listen to, and hear our own spirit and the voice of our hearts, when we are in need of change and rebirth, it can be an incredibly valuable practise, to build ourselves a protective layer or space. This space will enable us to remember who we are, to come back to ourselves and remember what is important to our souls.
This nest or cocoon could come in the way of having more time to yourself, solo time on the land, a space to draw or write. It could be not hanging around with certain people until you feel stronger and more resilient, it could be a space in your house or garden, it could be following certain threads that inspire you and strengthen the path you wish to follow.
At this time, in spring when we are meant to have shed the old, and sat within the cocoon or nest of winter darkness, we are now being called into the light of spring to birth the medicine we have found within us. But we need the nest the cocoon even more now, so we can hold ourselves in relative peace and keep coming back to those imaginal cells within, that are telling us the story of the change we need, and in coming back to it, we re-strengthen our resolve.
It is also the time, to gather things that will help support and nourish the change, acting like compost that serves to strengthen and feed our new beginnings.
Often when we have intentions, dreams or seeds to grow into our lives, we throw them up and out into the fingers of the fates, but take no responsibility for them ourselves. This is incredibly disempowering, because these longings we hold, need our actions to be able to grow. Intention, with action, can be like water, that over time, will carve a path through a rock that once was thought to be an immovable barrier.
So today, we will explore, through writing and a little bit of chatting, what’s held within, and how do we form a nest, a seed casing or a cocoon for ourselves to keep coming back to our intention, and also, what will be the outer layer of holding beyond the seed casing, such as compost, air, mycelium, plant medicine, serving to feed and support the tender new beginnings.
There will be no ask to share anything you write as we explore, the writing is just for you. You are welcome to share though, if you feel pulled to do so.
I ask that you keep your camera on, or just for the beginning and the end, so we can feel like a community and part of a group.
So come at 4 today, grab a warm brew, a place to snuggle down, a journal annd pencil or pen and let’s say hello.
The meeting is set to last 1.5 hours.
Thank you for reading and being here, I love this community, you are like a cocoon away from social media, a place to write and offer more, so thank you for that.
I look forward to seeing those of you who can join today.
If you cant make it, I will be sending through in a email what we explored so you can explore it in your own time.
Much wild beauty to you
